Niho (tooth). Thought to represent strength, leadership and resilience, the Niho design is commonly associated with two animals – the whale and the shark(mako).

Parāoa (Whale Bone). Whales hold great significance to Māori, representing abundance and wealth. In some iwi, they are believed to be descendants of Tangaroa, the god of the ocean. When a whale becomes stranded, it is seen as a gift from Tangaroa and carving it is a way of showing gratitude. 

Due to these being genuine whale bone, shipping is only available within Aotearoa, New Zealand.
